Perak and Nanning Forge New Paths in Green Tech and Digital Economy

A delegation from the Nanning Municipal People’s Government, led by Mr. Nong Shengwen, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangxi Committee and Secretary of the CPC Nanning Committee, visited Ipoh today. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral relations between the Perak State Government and Nanning City, China, and explore potential collaborations in tourism, education, conservation, green energy development, digital economy, logistics, industrial park development, and international investment.

The delegation was welcomed by representatives from the Perak State Government, including YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and YB Teh Kok Lim. The visit is part of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, and includes the pre-launch of an expo focusing on franchising, digital trade, and artificial intelligence in Ipoh.

Perak and Nanning have had a friendship city relationship since 2005, with mutual interests in promoting cooperation and understanding between Malaysia and China. On June 9, 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed to renew this relationship.

Throughout their 18-year friendship, the two regions have collaborated on various projects in economics, science and technology, trade, culture, education, and sports. For instance, Nanning contributed two ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped many patients at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh.

Perak offers various opportunities for investors in multiple sectors to stimulate the country’s economy. The Perak state government has implemented plans like Perak Sejahtera 2030 and Perak Sustainable Plan 2030 to guide the state’s development and ensure sustainable and high-tech economic growth.

Significant projects include the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim, expected to attract RM32 billion in investment over the next decade, and the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP), aiming to expand Malaysia’s E&E ecosystem.

Perak emphasizes sustainability through its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and supports programs that help local manufacturers comply with international market requirements. The state also welcomes more investments in renewable energy and other green technologies.

This meeting aims to facilitate discussions that could expand cooperation and strengthen diplomatic ties between the Perak State Government and Nanning City, ultimately benefiting the overall Malaysia-China relationship.
